What happened to Journalism.

Here's the Syracuse U School of Journalism, where I studied in the 1940s.  This delightful pile, known as Yates Castle, was torn down some time in the 1950s, when I was so busy being a 1950s housewife and mother that I didn't know enough to throw myself in front of the bulldozer.

And here's today's Syracuse University
Newhouse School of Public Communications.
And that pretty much sums up what's happened to Journalism.

  1. I have several friends who either recently retired from Newhouse or are about to--and I think they all would heartily agree with you.

  2. Sometime around 1946 I remember sitting in the typing lab in Yates Castle, and bragging to the guy at the next typewriter that I'd already had experience out in the real world of journalism, on the weekly Penn Yan Chronicle-Express -- to which he countered with his stint at a New Jersey daily. It was Si Newhouse jr -- and as I remember, he didn't end up spending all that much time at Syracuse.
