Movies -- Did I Post this Already?

As usual, got back in bed after breakfast, as usual turned on tv, and as usual didn't feel like getting up.  Midnight in Paris was playing again, and I found it delightful again. This time I paid more attention to the camera work, so evocative, so appealing.
Got to thinking about which movies I enjoy seeing more than once and came up with a few favorites -- perhaps you'd enjoy them, perhaps you already have.  I won't call them Best Pictures, except that I do remember thinking, the first time I saw Babette's Feast, that this was what motion pictures were invented for.
The rest is not a particularly intellectual list, now that I think about it, but anyhow, along with Babette, I am fond of Starman,

Moonstruck and -- shoot!  Lying in bed this morning I had a list  and now I can't remember the others.
I'll let you know if they come to me.  Meanwhile -- Netflix says I need to add to my queue. Your recommendations?

  1. The Birdcage, one of the absolute funniest movies ever, along with Some Like it Hot; Frisco Kid, we talked about that the other day; almost anything with Meryl Streep in it.

  2. We recently enjoyed "Hello my name is Doris" and "Sing Street" which we saw at Chautauqua.

  4. Well, I must put in a plug for Casablanca, Singin' in the Rain, The African Queen, The Philadelphia Story, Bull Durham, and The Big Chill (not necessarily in that order). And I have a sneaking fondness for the 1940 Pride and Prejudice, gloriously anachronistic though it is.

    1. I don't even mind that they changed the era and the ending of the story - Olivier was the best Darcy ever - he smouldered. (Long ago read in a bio of somebody? that he and Garson had had an affair in England a year or two before that.)

  5. Have you seen Brooklyn? It's about a young woman, an Irish immigrant to Brooklyn in the 50s. Fine acting. Old fashioned in its pacing.

  6. The Sapphires. About an aboriginal girl group out of Australian in the '70s. I don't know if it's on Netflix, but I think you'd like it.
