Peaceable Kingdom

As we speak, three stags lying around in the backyard -- pictures just taken from my desk.  They won't be this amicable in the spring, that's for sure.

  1. I've squinted hard at your second picture, and I don't see any antlers on those two deer (nice rack on the first guy!). So I believe your kingdom was peaceable yesterday because a buck was lounging around with two does. It's that time of year: I shooed a buck and three does out of my cul-de-sac this morning!

  2. Beautiful! I wonder if they are siblings? Do deer stay together as they grow?

    1. Thanks for the support, CMS--but I see now that I don't. Edith studied these deer through binoculars and says that the two in the second photo do have vestigial antlers--and now that I've looked at the second photo with a magnifying glass, I can see that they do. So scratch the buck-and-harem theory. And exactly why were these three guys hanging out together?? Maybe Julie is right and they are kinfolk (or kindeer)???
